Dear Carolina students,
As we begin to see some hopeful signs of spring in Chapel Hill, I hope your semester is going smoothly. The demands of a new term often bring new challenges, opportunities, and potential stressors, both personally and academically. So please remember to reach out to the many resources available to you for support:
Mental health and well-being resources
- Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides both individual and group counseling. You can reach CAPS 24/7 at (919) 966-3658.
- Dean of Students team, for student support and referrals to campus services, assistance in balancing personal needs and academic demands, and navigating other challenges. If you know a fellow Tar Heel who needs help, please submit a Care Referral.
- Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (EOC), for concerns about discrimination and harassment based upon protected status, including religion and national origin.
- The Heels Care Network, including our mental health resource hub, which you can customize to best fit your needs.
- Student Wellness, for non-clinical resources, skills development tools, and wellness coaching.
First Amendment and free expression resources
At Carolina, we are a diverse community representing an array of backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints. One of our core University values is to demonstrate respect for all members of our Tar Heel family, including those with whom we disagree. Please be sure you are familiar with our free speech and expression rules and resources:
- Our free speech website, with information about rights, policies, and reporting resources for students, faculty, and staff.
- Guidance for campus demonstrations, including how we affirm the right to assemble and engage in demonstrative activities that remain lawful and follow our University policies. (Reports of alleged policy violations are assessed in context with our Student Code of Conduct policy and procedures.)
As Tar Heels, we all have a role in fostering our Carolina culture of compassion and care. Take good care of yourself and our community — and enjoy next week’s well-being day as a time to rest, relax, and recharge.
As always, Go Heels!
