The Division of Student Success has launched an inaugural cohort of students as part of its Student Experience Council (SEC) to create an unmatched student experience at a top-ranked public institution. The SEC has several ambitious goals: to enhance the student experience, foster academic excellence, and inform the University’s enrollment efforts in our state.
Members of the SEC represent student organizations from many areas of campus. Student government leadership attended the first meeting, less than one day following their inauguration. Student Body President Devin Duncan thanked student and University leaders for convening the group, with a commitment to “double down” on elevating Carolina as the nation’s best — and first — student experience as the nation’s oldest public institution.
“Excellence requires partnership,” Duncan said. “It requires listening. And it requires a shared commitment to delivering the very best outcomes for all students. We are well on our way.”
Student members of the SEC include undergraduate and graduate students who are noted leaders on campus — whether through registered student organizations, merit or need-based scholars, and more.
“I am committed to ensuring that student voices lead our work as an institution to create the number-one student experience in the country,” said James Orr, senior vice provost for student success. The division launched under his leadership in 2025.
