Student Org Spotlight: The Pleasure Activists

Meet The Pleasure Activists, a group of UNC-Chapel Hill students who, inspired by the work of writer and activist adrienne maree brown, aim to affirm and normalize sexual health through an inclusive lens. Co-Guide Aneesha Tucker (they/them), a senior from Charlotte, N.C., shares how the Pleasure Activists support student wellness.

1. What are the Pleasure Activists all about?

The mission statement for the Pleasure Activists is to affirm and normalize sexual health through an inclusive lens by empowering people to center their pleasure through education, advocacy, community building and service. The Pleasure Activists seek to engage in activities that renounce systems of oppression and supremacy and reclaim our whole and pleasurable selves.

2. How do you help students?

We envision this club as a space where we can provide a positive and respectful environment for students that supports physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexual health.

3. What do you like most about being a member of the Pleasure Activists?

Being a member of the Pleasure Activists is being seen, heard and understood by a community that values growth, authenticity, safety, vulnerability and mutual support. We get in tune with our desires in all facets of our lives and encourage each other to practice showing up as our whole and pleasurable selves. It is an opportunity to learn, teach, create and just be!

4. What's one wellness tip you would like to share with students?

Take it one day at a time, prioritize rest, and center the things that bring you joy! You are right on time and not one second late!

5. How can students get involved with the Pleasure Activists?

Students can get involved with the Pleasure Activists by joining our GroupMe, following us on Instagram and Twitter @/pleasureactivistsunc, and staying in touch via our website. We would be honored and excited to be in community with you! Be sure to check the Events page of the Pleasure Activists’ website for information on upcoming programs.
