Thomas Moscatelli Jr. | Pharmacy Manager - Student Stores Pharmacy | Campus Health | Two Years

What's the name of your hometown?

Boston, MA

Describe your role as Pharmacy Manager.

As a pharmacist at Campus Health, I fill prescriptions for students, staff, faculty, and their family members. I counsel patients on their prescribed medications and also recommend over the counter medications when appropriate. I was previously very involved with COVID contact tracing on campus, and I am currently heavily involved in overseeing the day to day operations at the COVID vaccine clinic on campus.

What do you like most about your work?

Working with UNC students is very rewarding. Many of them are accessing healthcare on their own for the first time in their life and I enjoy being able to be a part of that learning process for them.

Is there a lesson learned from working through the pandemic that you are applying now that students are back on campus?

By working on campus through the entire pandemic, I have learned that situations can change drastically from one day to the next, with no notice. We just have to adjust our goals sometimes and make the best of the situation we are dealt.

What's your favorite work memory?

Getting the phone call to hear that I had been hired is one of my favorite memories from work so far. Previously, I had worked for the same company since the age of 16. It had been a very long time since I had interviewed for a job, and I didn’t know exactly what to expect. Before that interview, and that phone call, I had never been a part of a work team so welcoming and excited to work with me. It was a very refreshing change.

What's one of your favorite things?

Watching live sporting events, especially hockey.

What are you listening to? (music/podcast/ book)

Music - Luke Combs, Book - KG: A to Z

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Personally, in the past year, I got married and went on a honeymoon to The Maldives! Professionally, I will be obtaining my clinical pharmacist practitioner license this month. I am also studying to take the ISTM Certificate in Travel Health Exam.
