Jakelin "Jaki" Bonilla | Social Innovation Initiatives Coordinator | Campus Y | 7 Years

Describe your role as Social Innovation Initiatives Coordinator.

I support students who are looking to make a more significant impact around the world and specifically students launching social justice initiatives.

How has the transition to everyone being back in-person gone?

It's been a challenging ride, but I remind myself to take it day by day.

What do you like most about your work?

I enjoy my conversations with students, where I can explore how to support them and their ventures.

Is there a lesson learned from working through the pandemic that you are applying now that students are back on campus?

I check in with people more intentionally about their overall well-being before jumping into "business."

What are you listening to? (music/podcast/ book)

I listen to a variety of music on my one-hour commute from Siler City. I most enjoy cumbias as they bring so much joy when I think of dancing with my family during special events.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am the daughter of El Salvadorean refugees, so regardless of my title or work, I am always thinking of how to help build and develop a global mindset for myself and others. We need to think more broadly about the issues we are facing in our society to establish how to best address and tackle each of these.
