Mixed Methods Learning Series: Data Visualization in Mixed Methods Research
This practical one-day course is designed for those interested in expanding their research repertoire to include mixed methods research. We will take an orientation to mixed methods research that prioritizes purpose and research questions over the matter of design choices. The course will concentrate attention to opportunities for integrating data during analysis introduced by joint displays—tables, figures, and other types of graphic formats for organizing data, such as timelining and circular displays, that align or link data from different sources. The examples featured do not require specialized software. Prior experience with mixed methods research is not required.
The course is organized into four sessions, each concentrating on a different topic:
- Session 1: Keys to a basic understanding of mixed methods research.
- Session 2: Effective strategies for integrating qualitative and quantitative data.
- Session 3: Timelining as a mixed methods analytical strategy, including as a basis for group comparison.
- Session 4: Circular displays as a mixed methods analytical strategy.
The course includes several hands-on components. These include drafting different types of tables and figures to link qualitative and quantitative data.
Registration and fee are required to receive Zoom link. Zoom link and welcome packet will be emailed shortly before the event for those registered. Attendance is required as no sessions will be recorded. Early Bird Registration pricing is available until 7/14/26.
