There are a number of resources, activities, and services available for students who stay in Chapel Hill over summer break. During summer break, on-campus services hours may change. Visit each department’s website for additional information and the most updated hours of operation.
Student Affairs
Carolina Financial Well-Being Center
The Carolina Financial Well-Being Center serves undergraduate, graduate, and professional students by offering a wealth of financial resources to empower them to improve financial well-being.
Campus Health
Campus Health: Offers weekday hours in the summer from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Any time Campus Health is closed, patients can receive 24/7 support by calling (919) 966-2281 for UNC Nurse Connect. Campus Health Pharmacy, Student Stores Pharmacy, and the Mini Clinic will maintain regular hours on weekdays this summer.
Campus Recreation
Campus Recreation offers special hours during summer, including for students who are enrolled in summer school.
Carolina Union
The Carolina Union operates Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and is closed on weekends. Hours may vary during holidays and orientation periods.
Mental Health and Counseling Services
The Heels Care Network is a mental health web resource for our entire community, and shares 24/7 resources, as well as those operating with regular business hours.
Counseling and Psychological Services: Operates with regular hours in the summer. Walk-in initial assessments are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Urgent needs will be seen Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 24/7 by calling (919) 966-3658.
Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services
Support and services provided by Gender Violence Services Coordinators and Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services will be available during the summer months. Email [email protected] or call (919) 962-1343 to schedule a time to meet. Student Wellness
Student Wellness will offer wellness coaching, confidential substance use support, and sexual health resources over the summer. Students can request these services through the links above or by dropping by our office. Check out this interactive map, listing most of the wellness spaces on campus that you might find worthwhile.
On campus
Carolina Dining Services
Many dining locations on campus are open, including restaurants in bottom of Lenior as well as Rams Market. Check out Carolina Dining Services’ locations and hours to be sure you know what’s open. Students can also use flex to order delivery anywhere on campus from Takeout Central (access to delivery from over 30 local restaurants), Brenz Pizza, Domino’s and Wings Over Chapel Hill.
Be sure to also check out the Carolina Food Pantry Network, with a variety of locations around campus for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. A Chapel Hill Community Fridge will also be stocked during the summer. Starting May 19, the fridge will be located on the 2500 hallway of the Carolina Union (near the Student Life & Leadership office) and is accessible during the Union’s operating hours. International Student and Scholar Services
The Writing and Learning Center
The Writing and Learning Center offices in SASB North are open business hours Monday through Friday. Academic coaching and peer tutoring are available when undergraduate classes are in session.
Student Stores
Student Stores will remain open during summer break. Check their website for hours of service.

Library hours vary by facility, holidays, and academic sessions.
Off Campus
Dining off campus
Many local restaurants are open and are also offering take-out and delivery options. For information on local restaurants visit What’s Open Downtown and information for local grocery stores, which typically offer delivery or pickup.
Chapel Hill/Carrboro
Interfaith-Council for Social Services is an organization in Carrboro that offers various programs including a community kitchen serving free hot nutritious meals daily, drop-in access to computers, phones, and other supports, a community market providing free fresh food, pantry staples, and hygiene items, and emergency financial assistance.
CORA hosts a mobile market at the Nature Trail Mobile Home Park in Chapel Hill on the second Tuesday of each month from 3:00-5:00 p.m. CORA’s Mobile Market provides nutritious food at no cost to neighbors via drive-through.
Durham
Urban Ministries of Durham: Food pantry and community cafe serving three meals per day.
Durham Community Fridges is a mutual aid project supporting equal access to fresh food available to anyone in need of food. The fridge is located at 1902 W. Main St. in Durham and can be accessed between 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Things to do on and off campus
Events, gardens, farmers’ markets, and more
- Check out Off-Campus Student Life for a number of ways to connect in our community.
- Triangle on the Cheap is a resource that helps you find free and cheap things to do throughout the Triangle every day of the year.
- Start your weekend off with Fridays on the Front Porch most Friday evenings at the Carolina Inn.
- Shop for local produce at farmers’ markets in your area. There are many markets in the Triangle, including the following: Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market, Carrboro Farmers’ Market, Durham Farmers’ Market.
- Visit the North Carolina Botanical Gardens.
- Visit the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
- Attend events at Southern Village, including Sundays at Sundown Live Music.
- Attend events in Saxapahaw, like Saturdays in Saxapahaw, featuring live music and food trucks.
- Carolina and the surrounding area offer many opportunities for nature walks and hikes. The Heels Care Network outlines many ways students can get outside and explore nature around UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Explore history at Triangle museums, many of which offer free admission.
