We’re kicking off our Student Org Spotlight for spring 2023 with UNC SafeWalk! Learn more about what they do from our interview with the Safewalk team:
1. What is UNC Safewalk all about?
UNC SafeWalk is a university sponsored student organization that aims to provide safe travel alternatives to UNC students at night.
2. How do you help students?
UNC SafeWalk operates Sunday-Thursday from 10pm-2am and sends a pair of walkers to travel with students requesting a safewalk to their desired destination. Students will be able to find a pair of SafeWalkers outside of Davis Library during our hours of operation by calling our office at (919)-962-SAFE or by scheduling a reservation online at safewalk.unc.edu.
3. What do you like most about being a part of UNC Safewalk?
Even though SafeWalks primary mission is to provide a safe travel alternative to students, getting a walk with SafeWalk is so much more than that! We love having fun conversations, meeting new people, and building connections with our fellow Tarheel community.
4. Do you have any advice or resources to give to students regarding safety on campus?
While the UNC campus is pretty safe and secure, we always encourage students walking at night to remain aware of their surroundings and walk with friends when possible! Our campus also offers a variety of other safety resources including the P2P, UNCPD, Campus After Dark Ridesharing, etc.
5. How can students get involved?
If you’d like to get involved with SafeWalk, apply on our website today! Our applications open on 2/6/2023 and will be open for the next 3 weeks before interviews begin.
