Student Org Spotlight: Mi Pueblo

If you’re looking to find your community on campus, look no further than Mi Pubelo! Co-presidents Erika Munguia and Alessandra Cáceres Torres gives Student Affairs an inside look into the student org:

  1. What is Mi Pueblo about?
Mi Pueblo is the largest Latinx organization on campus. Our goal is to build a welcoming community for all students, especially first-years and transfers. We hope Mi Pueblo becomes a safe place, where students can find others with similar experiences as them as well as enjoy fun events together.
  1. How do you help students?
Mi Pueblo offers students opportunities to foster creativity, leadership, networking, and more! Our events center around career building, expertise, mental health, volunteering and a plethora of other topics that appeal to our diverse student body while embracing culture.
  1. What do you like most about being a member of Mi Pueblo?
Working with our team! We enjoy seeing our student leaders grow and learn more from one another. Each student has broken out of their shell this semester and become tremendously   more confident. We embrace all of our similarities and differences with no feelings of judgment.
  1. What has been your favorite event?
Carnaval! It was a great time to see our community come together; we enjoyed food, performances, music and bull riding! Seeing others smiling and having fun was a rewarding experience, and we were especially impressed by the efforts of the Cultura committee who organized the event.
  1. How can students get involved with Mi Pueblo?
Anyone is welcome to join our committees! We have six sub-committees that focus on health in action, social, cultura, comunidad, expresiones, and political action. If you attend the committee meetings, there will be opportunities to volunteer and help plan events! You can also follow our Instagram or visit our website to learn more about what we do.
