Student counseling resources available Tuesday, August 29

August 29, 2023 | |

On Monday, we experienced a campus shooting that has shaken our entire community. Events like this affect each of us differently, but your mental health and well-being are paramount, and we have an array of resources to support you now and in the days ahead.

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, numerous staff will be available to assist you in processing the variety of emotions and feelings you may be experiencing. Counseling resources will be available for students at the following locations on Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

  • Student and Academic Services Building (SASB North) 1118
  • Carolina Union, room 2420
  • Campus Health/CAPS

For students who may need mental health services outside of business hours, please call the 24/7 Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) line: (919) 966-3658.

Additionally, the Heels Care Network offers all Tar Heel faculty, staff, and students a variety of tools to support each other and to access the many mental health and well-being resources at Carolina. Carolina friends and family members will also find referral resources and ways that you can help on this site, too.

We have invested in the important work of strengthening our Tar Heel family connections and reinforcing our culture of compassion and care for many years. That work continues — and we all have a critical role to play. Please know that you are an essential part of what makes our campus so special, and UNC Student Affairs and our colleagues across campus are here to support you, today and every day.

Although this incident is a tragedy, we will continue to build our community together with resilience, respect, grace, and compassion. As always, take good care of yourselves and each other!
