Data Matters: Overview to AI and Deep Learning

Sponsored by the UNC Chapel Hill Odum Institute, Data Matters™ is a week-long series of intensive one and two-day online courses aimed at students and professionals in business, research, and government.

This course is designed for anyone who wants a clearer understanding of AI and deep learning—what they are, where they’re used, and the strengths and limitations of these approaches. You’ll explore how modern AI systems apply deep learning across different applications, as well as the trade‑offs and challenges that come with these methods. The focus is on building conceptual understanding rather than teaching specific frameworks or guiding you through model development.
