End-of-Semester Support and Resources

This message was sent to students at UNC-Chapel Hill on May 1, 2024.

Dear Carolina Students,

We know that the ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine creates fear, stress, and sadness for many members of our community—and the reverberation of these emotions and views were felt strongly on our campus yesterday, especially. As a public university, we support the rights of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to demonstrate peacefully as part of their First Amendment rights, as long as they follow our long-standing University policies.

Your education, safety, and well-being are our top priorities. We took actions yesterday to demonstrate our commitment to these objectives, to address activities that do not comply with University policies, and to preserve a campus in which all students can freely and safely engage in the learning environment, particularly during this critical time of the year involving final exams and Commencement events.

Please know that we will not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia, or any form of hatred on our campus. Anyone who feels they have experienced conduct that goes beyond free speech and constitutes discrimination or harassment based on protected status should contact the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office at [email protected]

We are here to support you. The Dean of Students team can connect you with campus resources, assist you with balancing personal needs and academic demands, and navigate other challenges; call or use any of the methods to reach out. If you know a fellow Tar Heel who needs help, please submit a Care Referral

We also have a wide range of other campus resources that can help:

We want you to feel welcomed, supported, and respected during your time at Carolina. Help us meet that goal by letting us know when you need assistance and by playing your part in supporting our culture of compassion and care.

Best of luck on finals—and Go Heels!

Sincerely,

Amy Johnson
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
