EIA Involvement Fair Kicks Off Semester

February 3, 2016 |

The first ever Excellence in Action Student Involvement Fair took place on Thursday, Jan. 14 with a goal of challenging students to think more broadly about their campus engagements.  The event, which took place in the Pit and the Union featured more than 75 student organizations and University departments, a scavenger hunt to win a free t-shirt and free hot chocolate.

“The Excellence in Action Steering Committee wanted to showcase student engagement opportunities offered by Student Affairs departments and to introduce the framework for the Excellence in Action Initiative,” said Dr. Shuford, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “Student organizations that were not able to participate in FallFest were invited to participate as well.”

Dr. Shuford said Student Affairs staff we stationed throughout the fair to inform students about the various components of the Excellence in Action initiative. “As a result, students were able to see the connection of how their participation in co-curricular activities can contribute to their overall competency development with the four Excellence in Action Elements — dynamic learning, honor personal responsibility and community engagement,” she said.

Excellence in Action (EIA) is a multifaceted initiative that encourages purposeful engagement with the Carolina community to assist students in developing critical skills for the 21st Century. There are plans to promote the initiative during New Student Orientation this summer and at FallFest.
