Alum, Jason Halsey, appointed Director of UNC Campus Recreation

The UNC Campus Recreation department has announced the hiring and promotion of Jason Halsey from Associate Director of Programs to Director, effective immediately.

Halsey fills the role after former Director, Bill Goa, retired after eight years in the position. Along with being a graduate of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Halsey has served the UNC community by overseeing a variety of areas for the Campus Recreation department for over 15 years. He has specifically overseen the transformation and development of the Campus Recreation Sport Clubs, Intramural, Aquatic, and Carolina Adventure programs. Halsey has been recognized multiple times for his efforts and excellent work in both the Student Affairs and Exercise Sport Science departments. Prior to returning to UNC, Halsey worked for the University of Northern Colorado Campus Recreation department for five years.

With over 20 years of experience working in Higher Education, Halsey will use his experience and knowledge to oversee the continued growth and programming of the Campus Recreation department, while inspiring all Tar Heels to have fun, stay active, grow, and play together. He is committed to making recreation and wellbeing an essential part of the student experience.

The UNC Chapel Hill Campus Recreation dually reports to both the Exercise and Sport Science academic department and Student Affairs. Campus Recreation’s mission is to design and deliver innovative, diverse, and inclusive experiences that stimulate wellbeing, enjoyment and learning for the entire University Community.
