From Whitehall to Raleigh: British Diplomacy in the 21st Century
Join the Carolina Forum for Education and Diplomacy (CFED) and the Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy (TFED) for a special conversation with Justin D. Sosne, Head of the UK Government’s North Carolina Office, part of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
A graduate of UNC–Chapel Hill, Sosne serves as the British government’s principal political and commercial representative in North Carolina. His professional experience spans diplomacy, international business, trade and investment, and global policy, including previous service with the US Department of State.
This conversation will explore the contemporary UK–US relationship, with particular attention to the role of regional diplomacy in strengthening international partnerships. Topics may include trade and investment, renewable energy, economic development, international sporting events, and the importance of sustained cooperation between longstanding allies.
Students will gain insight into the practical work of diplomacy, the relationship between international affairs and local economic development, and potential career pathways in public service and international relations.
