Building Energy System Resilience in Southeast Asia

Global challenges ranging from climate change to geopolitical instability are reshaping energy affordability, reliability, and sustainability. This talk examines how to build more resilient energy systems in Southeast Asia using several case studies. I will highlight a stakeholder-driven energy modeling effort conducted under the ASEAN Green Futures initiative, which develops iterative pathways to expand electricity access, enhance grid reliability, and reduce environmental impacts across the region. I will also explore mobility-energy integration in Thailand, focusing on vehicle-to-grid applications and car sharing as strategies to increase system flexibility and support distributed energy resources. Together, these cases offer able transferable lessons for resilient energy planning in Southeast Asia and the US, reflecting opportunities enabled by the Bringing Southeast Asia Home project supported by the Luce Foundation including regional collaboration, capacity building, and the development of scalable clean energy solutions.
