Bear Island Sea Kayaking

September 12 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Bear Island Sea Kayaking

Join us for an overnight on Bear Island, a four-mile long, undeveloped

barrier island on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. As a group, we will follow a paddle trail for several miles through protected inlet marshes and some open water out to the island, where we’ll set camp and enjoy the spacious grand strand beach. The island hosts an abundance of wildlife, including migratory seabirds, crustaceans, and native plants. We’ll spend some time on the beach on Sunday morning before weaving our way back through the marsh back to the inland portion of the park. Throughout the trip, our student instructors will teach a number of skills relevant to the trip, such as tidal navigation, paddle strokes, wet exits, and several backcountry camping skills.
