NPHC Garden Groundbreaking

November 1, 2017 | |

The NPHC(National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.) Garden Project kicked off its fundraising campaign on October 29 with a breakfast, program and groundbreaking on what will be the site of the NPHC Garden in the SASB Plaza.  More than 100 NPHC alumni and current students showed up for the event organized by Student Affairs and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Community Involvement. Several charter members from the NPHC sororities and fraternities were in attendance and spoke on how excited they were to see the garden finally happening.

The garden will celebrate and honor the contributions and history of the NPHC member fraternities and sororities whose organizations have impacted UNC’s campus since the first organization arrived in 1973 with their commitment to civic engagement, leadership, academic achievement, and providing a sense of belonging for students. The garden comes to fruition as Carolina prepares to recognize NPHC’s 45th anniversary on campus. the NPHC Garden will create a positive environment for NPHC organizations to unite in efforts to promote their fraternities and sororities while educating students about the history of these diverse organizations.

The UNC NPHC established a commemorative brick program to engage NPHC alumni and friends to support and raise awareness and financial resources to build the garden as it is a 100 percent donor funded project. After the NPHC Garden is constructed, remaining and future funding will be used to support and improve NPHC programs and establish the first-ever NPHC Scholarship to recognize high-achieving members of our community.
