SUMMARY:Introduction to Multilevel Modeling (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Multilevel Modeling (Online)\n\nThis course will take place over two days (9/9/2026 and 9/11/2026) and will be offered via Zoom. Attendance is required as the course will not be recorded.Nesting can arise from hierarchical data structures (e.g.\, siblings nested within family; patients nested within therapist)\, longitudinal data structures (repeated measures nested within individual)\, or both (repeated measures nested within patient and patient nested within therapist). It is well known that the analysis of nested data structures using traditional general linear models (e.g.\, ANOVA or regression) is flawed\, oftentimes substantially so: Tests of significance are likely biased and within- and between-group effects are confounded with one another. All of these limitations can be addressed within the multilevel model. In this workshop\, we provide an introduction to the application of multilevel models with nested data\, including software implementation in SAS\, SPSS and Stata. \nRegistration and a refundable deposit for student is required to receive Zoom link. Deposit will be refunded upon attendance of course. \nTo learn more and register\, click HERE. \n\n\n\n From Wednesday\, September 9\, 2026 9:00 AM\n to Friday\, September 11\, 2026 3:00 PM EDT\n at Online.

SUMMARY:AI in Research series – Introduction to AI Tools in Qualitative Software
DESCRIPTION:AI in Research series – Introduction to AI Tools in Qualitative Software\n\nDiscover how artificial intelligence can streamline workflows\, uncover hidden patterns\, and empower breakthroughs in your field. Learn practical applications of AI through Odum Institute AIR series that can revolutionize your research process. \nThis course will introduce participants to generative AI tools in qualitative software—ATLAS.ti\, MAXQDA\, and NVivo. These tools can be used to summarize textual documents through AI-assisted memo writing and to support coding\, with each program taking a different approach to integrating human judgment and AI features. \nThe course will also demonstrate how ChatGPT can be used to code textual data\, how to create effective prompts\, and how to import results from ChatGPT into qualitative software for further analysis. The course will be based on presentation and lecture but will provide brief exercises for hands-on exercises to be completed outside of the course. \nRegistration is required to receive Zoom link. SUMMARY:Introduction to Qualtrics (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Qualtrics (Online)\n\nThis is a 2-day course (9/15/26 and 9/16/26). Attendance for both days is required – as a reminder\, we do not record our short courses. \nQualtrics is a powerful browser-based web-survey tool. It is available to UNC Chapel Hill faculty\, staff\, and students\, for UNC-related projects. Qualtrics allows users to build complex surveys\, distribute them\, and analyze the responses all from one place. \nIn this course\, we will cover basic Qualtrics functions beginning with an overview of survey options and settings\, followed by hands-on practice programming and distributing a survey and downloading results. We will program some of the most common question and response types\, customize requirements and validation\, and add display logic\, skip logic\, and basic branch logic in the “survey flow”. We will then create and upload a contact list and discuss advantages and disadvantages of distributing the survey with a single reusable link vs. the survey mailer.  Finally\, we will cover a basic overview of the Data & Analysis tab for viewing\, editing\, and exporting raw data into various formats including .csv\, .tsv\, .excel\, and .spss. Other topics include project sharing/ collaboration\, Groups and Libraries\, and preventing fraudulent responses and bot activity. \nRegistration and a refundable deposit for students is required to receive Zoom link. Deposit will be refunded upon attendance of course. \nTo learn more and register\, click HERE. \n\n\n\n From Tuesday\, September 15\, 2026 3:00 PM\n to Wednesday\, September 16\, 2026 5:00 PM EDT\n at Online.

SUMMARY:Sustainability Orientation: Pathways for Sustainability Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Orientation: Pathways for Sustainability Leadership\n\nWhat does it mean that UNC-Chapel Hill achieved gold rating under the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking\, Assessment and Rating System (STARS)? \nWho manages the many different sustainability projects and programs on campus? \nWhat role do you and your peers’ actions have on campus? \nSustainable Carolina’s new offering\, Sustainability Orientation: Pathways for Sustainability Leadership\, answers these questions and more. This program\, in partnership with the UNC Office of Waste Reduction and UNC Transportation and Parking\, empowers students to become sustainability leaders on campus. \nThose who complete orientation begin their journey to becoming a Sustainable Carolina Ambassador. The steps for becoming an Ambassador will be explained at Orientation\, and available in an email following Orientation. \nWe will have fun\, branded items you can take home with you following completion of Orientation. CLE credit is available for students. \nPlease note that to be counted as “attending\,” you must complete the survey and stay for the duration of the Orientation. \n\n\n\n From Tuesday\, September 15\, 2026 6:00 PM\n to 7:00 PM EDT\n at Online.

SUMMARY:Designing AI-Assisted Qualitative Research Worklows
DESCRIPTION:Designing AI-Assisted Qualitative Research Worklows\n\nThis one-day course will be offered via Zoom only. Attendance is required as it will not be recorded. \nThis interactive\, hands-on workshop will introduce participants to a framework for considering the consequences of using generative AI in qualitative research designs and workflows (Paulus\, 2023; Paulus & Lester\, 2024). We will start by acknowledging inherent risks and ethical dilemmas posed by the development of large language models and how generative AI is challenging the essence of what it means to do qualitative work (Paulus & Marone\, 2025; Paulus\, Lester & Davis\, 2025). We will learn how to distinguish between methodological strategies and technological tactics\, i.e. why researchers must first know how they want to work with their data before choosing the best tools to do so (Woolf & Silver\, 2018). We will then discuss the current ‘state of play’ regarding the various genres of AI-assist technologies available to qualitative researchers and how to select the most appropriate platform. We will then compare and contrast several AI-assist platforms for managing and analyzing qualitative data. Finally\, we will discuss best practices for how to report the use of AI in research studies (Lester & Paulus\, forthcoming) and how to reflexively consider the consequences of doing so. Sample interview data will be used for the practice exercises. Workshop time will alternative between short lectures and demonstrations\, small group discussions\, practical hands-on activities\, and application of principles learned to the participants’ own research studies and data. \nRegistration and a refundable deposit for students is required to receive Zoom link. Deposit will be refunded upon attendance of course. \nTo learn more and register\, click HERE. \n\n\n\n From Thursday\, September 17\, 2026 9:00 AM\n to 3:00 PM EDT\n at Online.
