In ordinary transitive clauses\, all four converge on the same argument and accord with one another. However\, ditransitives provide some interesting contrasts. Two of the four track an animacy hierarchy and switch from the recipient to the theme when the theme outranks it; the other two track number instead (one is sensitive to duals\, the other to plurals). The result is a verb in which one exponent agrees with the theme while another\, in the same word\, agrees with the recipient\, and in which all three of Dryer’s ditransitive alignment types surface within a single paradigm. They will discuss the following topic: The last four and a half decades have seen zones of various sorts emerging as a means of generating economic development and growth. On the one hand\, a considerable amount of recent academic attention has turned to the various experiments with Enterprise Zones\, Export Processing Zones\, Freeport Zones\, and Special Economic Zones in rapidly urbanizing areas of Africa and Asia. On the other hand\, we see still zones used in the United Kingdom and the United States\, where they have existed since the early 1980s. It is to an understanding of the latter that we contribute. Our paper takes the example of Airport City Manchester to make three broad contributions to the wider extant academic literature. The first is to underscore the need to be attentive to the relationally interconnected nature of “local” policy experimentation. What we see in the case of the global chronology of zones is their complex\, incremental\, start-stop-start emergence. The second is that regardless of their spatial demarcation beyond existing governance norms and regulations\, each zone is a creature of its geographical-cum-institutional state context. The third point is a reminder of the geo-political nature of many economic redevelopment strategies\, as cities enroll themselves\, or others enroll them\, in wider global issues\, particularly as what some label as the Second Cold War rumbles along.\n \n  \n\n\n\n From Friday\, November 6\, 2026 3:30 PM\n to 5:00 PM EST\n at Carolina Hall 220. Learn more about parking and directions to UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus. \n\nThe Gut Instinct Chamber Music Project\, now in its third season\, is a concert series in the Triangle area which brings UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University’s historical instrument collections together with artists committed to presenting inspired\, visceral\, historically informed performances of the 19th-century chamber music repertoire. The series features music of female composers and their artistic circles. The name “Gut Instinct” is a play on words. In 19th-century Europe\, the violin\, viola\, and cello were strung with (sheep) gut. \nAll of the artists collaborating with the Pleyel and Graf pianos at UNC-Chapel Hill (built in 19th-century Paris and Vienna\, respectively)\, as well as the Clementi piano at Duke (early 19th-century England) use these gut string materials. The turn of phrase “gut instinct” also refers to the visceral\, accessible nature of the musical performances that this series presents. Our mission is to make “Historically Informed Performance” accessible\, relatable\, and culturally relevant!
