Put on almost every year since 2010\, this event brings together students\, faculty\, and professionals to discuss climate change and think about pathways to solutions\, from policy to technology. Anyone interested is welcome to attend any part of the event which will last from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. See more details below. \nAbout the event:The day will start with bagels\, an intro\, and speaker sessions\, featuring presentations by UNC Professor Nancy Guo on Carbon Capture\, Dr. Melissa Malkin-Weber on Clean Energy\, and SELC’s Ramona McGee on Wildlife Conservation Policy. A panel will follow\, with panelists bringing perspectives from local\, organizational\, and international levels of climate and environmental management\, then a bring-your-own-lunch break during which you can join one of the breakout workshops\, one by Climate Journalist Justin Cook on Climate Communication\, and one by Sunrise on Student Activism. After lunch\, we will have a networking session during which you can hear from students giving poster presentations and tabling student organizations\, before closing with Climate Hero awards. If any of these sound interesting\, we’d love for you to RSVP to participate! SUMMARY:"Human-in-the-Loop” Thematic Analysis: Using R to Apply Current Recommendations for Incorporating LLMs into Qualitative Research (online)
DESCRIPTION:“Human-in-the-Loop” Thematic Analysis: Using R to Apply Current Recommendations for Incorporating LLMs into Qualitative Research (online)\n\nDo you want to explore current research recommendations in the literature on incorporating LLMs into qualitative/mixed methods data analysis\, or are you interested in implementing LLMs into your qualitative/mixed methods workflow?  If so\, this short course is designed for you! \nIn this course we will examine current recommendations from the literature regarding integrating AI (specifically LLMs) into the process of qualitative coding.  Acknowledging that a wide range of qualitative approaches exist\, all examples and recommendations in this course will be based on the 6 Phase Thematic Analysis Framework proposed by Braun & Clarke 2006 to simplify the course scope. \nNo perquisites in qualitative methods or coding are required for this course – just bring your computer & your curiosity! \nIn the course we will: \n1)        Review the qualitative approach of Thematic Analysis using the Braun & Clarke Framework \n2)        Get a high-level\, very big picture understanding of LLMs\, what they are & how they generate “natural language” \n3)        Examine current recommendations in the literature on incorporating LLMs in Thematic Analysis \n4)        Do hands-on activities in R that implement some of the current recommendations using the Braun & Clarke Framework.  We will compare our results to published results generated by all human coders using the same data \nMinimum computer requirements for full participation are as follows: \n– RAM: At least 16 GB of random access memory \n– GPU: A graphics card with at least 16 GB of VRAM (video memory) \n– Disk Space: About 16 GB of free space on your hard drive or SSD \nPlease install the most recent version of the following software prior to class.  Be sure to install the version for your operating system and please install R prior to installing R Studio. \n–            R: https://cran.r-project.org/ \n–            R Studio: https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/ \n–            Ollama: https://ollama.com/ \nRegistration and a refundable deposit is required to receive Zoom link. Deposit will be refunded upon attendance of course. \nTo learn more and register\, click HERE. \n\n\n\n From Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026 10:00 AM\n to Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026 2:00 PM EDT\n at Online.

SUMMARY:“Singing of Troy: Imagining an Heroic Age from the Iliad to the Aeneid” -- David Stuttard
DESCRIPTION:“Singing of Troy: Imagining an Heroic Age from the Iliad to the Aeneid” — David Stuttard\n\n — \n “ ”— \, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is delighted to welcome back —distinguished classicist\, writer\, lecturer\, dramaturge\, and Fellow of Goodenough College\, London—for a live webinar with students in Epic\, Empire\, and Diplomacy (PWAD/CMPL 489). \n \, :–: (:–: ) — \nDavid will speak on themes drawn from ’ and ’ \, bringing his characteristic clarity and narrative brilliance to questions of epic\, leadership\, diplomacy\, and the enduring structures of power. \nThis year’s visit comes amid an extraordinary period of activity. David has recently led study tours to and with the Oxford Arts Society and Goodenough College\, and is currently delivering a lecture series at 92NY in New York City. At the same time\, he has just published his latest book with Harvard University Press—Hubris: Pericles’ Parthenon Project and the Invention of Athens—a remarkable achievement in an already distinguished career. \nDavid’s work continues to exemplify what the study of antiquity can be at its best: rigorous\, humane\, and vividly alive to the present. Whether in the lecture hall\, on stage\, or guiding students through the landscapes of the ancient Mediterranean\, he brings the classical world into immediate and compelling focus. \nThis conversation offers a fitting culmination to the semester—and no prior background in Greek or Roman literature is required. All who are interested in epic\, history\, leadership\, or the long arc of cultural memory are most welcome to join. \n :https://unc.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ftYbZ2ZtTF2F-hyCvE1wkA \nHosted by the Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy (TFED) in partnership \n\n\n\n From Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026 12:30 PM\n to 3:15 PM EDT\n at FedEx Global Education Center — Room 1009.

SUMMARY:Ballroom Dance Beginner Lessons
DESCRIPTION:Ballroom Dance Beginner Lessons\n\n\n\nJoin us for our beginner lessons! We teach you how to waltz\, tango\, cha-cha\, and much more! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never danced; if you’re interested in learning\, please join! Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner either\, we make sure no one dances alone. You are welcome to join at any point during the year and still gain a good understanding of what’s happening. Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before because this is geared toward absolute beginners. All you need is a pair of socks and yourself! \n  \nTuesday Lessons: These lessons focus on learning to dance with another individual and the basics of moving around the social dance floor. We alternate styles on Tuesday each week\, beginning with Latin dancing such as cha-cha\, rumba\, and swing and switching to smooth\, which is more the waltz and tango dances. The lesson goes from 7 to 8 p.m.\, and we leave time for dancers to practice social dancing on their own from 8 to 9 p.m. \n  \nWednesday Lessons: The Wednesday lessons will begin with a Latin-style dance lesson from 7 to 8 p.m. and a standard-style lesson from 8 to 9 p.m. These lessons focus more on technique and learning how to move your body. They will be beginner-friendly but get a little bit harder as time goes on. \nAfter the dues deadline\, they are members-only\, so please make sure to talk to a council member if you want to try it out! \n  \nGetting In Touch: If you’re interested in learning more about the team\, you can email us at hcreid@ad.unc.edu or join our listserv here: https://forms.gle/i1VADq7u4jaEZU7P9 \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n From Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026 7:00 PM\n to 9:00 PM EDT\n at Woollen Gymnasium\, Room B017.
