Christopher A. Payne has served in a variety of positions in higher education including Assistant Director of Residence Life at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Director of Operations for the Department of Residence at the University of Denver, and Director of Housing and Residential Education at UNC Chapel Hill.

Since March 2005 he has served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UNC Chapel Hill working closely with Housing and Residential Education, Campus Health Services, University Career Services, Technology and Systems Support, Campus Recreation, capital construction and space needs for the Division of Student Affairs.

He graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Colorado State University, MS.Ed. in Counseling with an emphasis in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, and a Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
