Dean of Students, Dr. Melissa Exum, was born and raised in Warrenton,
North Carolina. Her educational credentials include a Bachelor's Degree
in Sociology, from Wake Forest University, a Master's Degree in Medical
Sociology from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and a Doctorate
in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University.
Dr. Exum joined the Division of Student Affairs at Carolina in September
of 1998 from Ohio University, where she had served for 9 years in various
capacities, with the most recent being the Associate Vice President of
Student Affairs, where she was responsible for supervising the Departments
of Residential Life, Counseling and Psychological Services, Multicultural
Programs, and International Student and Faculty Services. In addition
to extensive work in student affairs at Ohio University and the University
of Maryland-Baltimore County, she has also worked in private industry
and state government in the area of evaluation research and budget planning.
