Meet Jagir
Class of 2013
Hometown: Boynton Beach, Florida
At UNC-Chapel Hill, I have fostered my passion for exploring social justice issues and examining approaches to community development mainly through my experiences within the Campus Y, UNC's center for social justice. At the Campus Y, I have served on the Executive Board for the past three years. Before being elected Co-President of the Campus Y for the 2012-2013 academic year, I had the pleasure of directing the publicity and marketing efforts on behalf of the Campus Y. When I am not at the Campus Y, I can be found enjoying my time with my residents as a RA in Cobb Community, being a crazy counselor for Carolina Kickoff, or planning the coolest event on campus as the third-term director of UNC's Holi Moli. I have previously served as the two-term Co-Chair for the Multicultural Affairs and Diversity Outreach committee of UNC's Executive Branch of Student Government, as a member of the UNC Undergraduate Honor Court, as a trip leader for an APPLES alternative fall break trip, and as a mentor for the Connected Learning Program.
My academic focuses throughout my college career has ranged from religious studies to education policy to journalism. Through my cross-campus coursework at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University, as well as my extracurricular involvements, I have striven to engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to examining contemporary issues in public education. In the coming year, I will continue my studies on education policy and pedagogy through Duke's Secondary Teacher Preparation Program, as well as upon graduation at the master's graduate level.
