“Investing in our students is an investment in our collective future”
Peggy Jablonski
Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs
The education of a college student is a combination of an excellent academic program with the application of learning to everyday life. We work in partnership with the faculty and the academic administration to provide a holistic educational experience for all students. The development of students of all ages into educated, engaged, and committed leaders requires all of us; Student Affairs seeks to provide the optimal conditions and environments in which learning and growth can take place.
There are many ways you can support the Division of Student Affairs. When you contribute to any of our departments you directly impact the lives of students.
Managed by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, this fund provides resources to support student needs and in all four areas of priority including, Student Life, Health and Wellness, Diversity, Leadership and Services.
Some current priorities and annual needs include:
$25,000 for Carolina United – A groundbreaking program that brings together student leaders from across campus to learn about and support unity, diversity and collaboration opportunities.
$50,000 for Campus Union Activities Board (CUAB) – CUAB provides grants to over 600 student organizations.
$100,000 for Student Life Speakers Series – A program that helps student organizations and departments bring high profile and important speakers to campus.
$25,000 for Artistically Creative Public Spaces and Recreational Areas – To enhance and develop spaces to improve the quality of student interaction and engagement.
LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
- A central resource for all students and student organizations to provide programming and experiences that promotes effective leadership and citizenship through experiential learning, services, training and resources.
- When you support the Campus Y, you are investing in student leadership and learning with a global impact. As the largest student organization on campus, there is constant need for increased funding to support the student-led leadership and service programs in areas such as youth mentoring, race relations and human rights.
DIVERSITY
- Contributions to this fund support educational opportunities for student groups and individual students. These student initiated grant proposals are supported and approved through input and guidance.
- The Residential Learning Communities are collaborations with academic departments and Student Affairs to promote a seamless learning environment across campus. The Department of Housing and Residential Education currently needs about $250,000 annually to fully fund the Learning Communities. These communities have local and global impact, such as:
- The Global Business Scholars Community
- The South American Malaria Education and Inoculation Project
- The Community Health Outreach Initiative
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
- This fund supports campus programs, seminars, activities, and treatments that promote holistic health to all students. These initiatives provide essential information and resources in the areas of physical and mental health, prevention, and healthy behaviors - promoting overall individual wellness.
- Contributions to the Student Recreation Fund provide resources to update campus recreation facilities, exercise centers, fitness equipment, health and fitness programs, and the Carolina Adventures programs. This fund also provides need-based grants to ensure that all students are able to participate in the variety or recreation programs and club sport teams.
STUDENT LIFE
- Contributions to this endowment provides students opportunities to pursue essential national and international internship experiences. Today, students must have internship experience in order to be competitive in the job market. By supporting the Internship Endowment you are helping to provide opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience.
- Emergencies and unplanned events can leave students in financial difficulties that affect their personal and academic lives. This fund provides immediate financial assistance to enrolled students who are experiencing emergency situations such as an accident, illness, travel for a funeral, fire, temporary housing, etc.
