Student Union Renovation

UCommons

More places to work and play. 24 hours a day, every day.

You asked for a flexible 24/7 space,we listened. The Frank Porter Graham Student Union is undergoing Phase I of renovations, which will improve building code and introduce Wendy’s on the first floor. Phase II will zero in on the things you asked for: greater variety of food options, more study spaces, better performance and rehearsal spaces, more technology. Let your Union adapt to your every need, at every time.

Meeting rooms more, and more useful:

Plentiful and available, all the time. On the first floor, six new meeting spaces will be available without prior reservation 24 hours a day. Adjustable walls and doors will make this a truly flexible space, ready to accommodate groups or individuals. Eight new rooms on the second and third floors will accommodate larger groups of 30 to 100 people.

Performance spaces updated, better than ever:

A portable stage, built-in lighting and sound, video projectors, two dressing rooms, and a catering prep area will make the Cabaret the ultimate place to hold your performance, lecture, or reception. The Auditorium will also be upgraded, with better lighting, more backstage space, more dressing rooms, and a bigger lobby to suit your needs.

Guide desk help, whenever you need it:

The guide desk will point you in the right direction 24 hours a day, whether you want to reserve a space or computer, buy a ticket for a Cabaret event, get info about student organizations, or find out how to have a sweet design created for your organization by Design Services.

Rehearsal spaces new, improved for you:

Two new rehearsal spaces will have sprung wooden floors, dance barres, sound- and video-recording equipment, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors, for you to express your every creative whim.

More food tasty treats, whenever you eat:

A new food service venue will offer local, green, sustainable food and drinks, including coffee, tea, and smoothies, 24 hours a day. You can even run it as a cooperative venture with other students.

Commons lounge vibrant, active 24/7:

A flexible lounge space will allow you to rearrange the space according to your needs, whether you’re studying, relaxing, rehearsing, eating, talking, learning, or enjoying whatever you love to do.
