Duke’s Imam to Give the Baccalaureate Keynote

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, along with the UNC-CH Campus Ministers Association, is pleased to announce that Imam Abdullah Antepli has been selected to deliver the 2012 Undergraduate Baccalaureate keynote address. As the Muslim chaplain at Duke University, Abdullah is one of only a handful of full-time Muslim chaplains at U.S. colleges and universities. He completed his basic training and education in his native Turkey. He is the founder and executive board member of the Muslim Chaplains Association and a member of the National Association of College and University Chaplains.

Chaplain Antepli engages students, faculty, and staff across campus through seminars, panels, and other avenues to provide a Muslim voice and perspective to discussions of faith, spirituality, social justice, and more. As part of this work, he serves as a faculty member in the Divinity School and at DISC (Duke Islamic Studies Center), teaching a variety of courses on Islam. Antepli will be speaking on the topic of ‘Inspiration.’

The Undergraduate Baccalaureate program is an interfaith service celebrating commencement. The service is organized by the Campus Ministers’ Association of UNC-Chapel Hill in cooperation with the Division of Student Affairs. The Baccalaureate program will take place on Saturday, May 12, at 3 p.m. Chancellor Holden Thorp, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Winston Crisp, students and members of the Campus Ministers' Association will also offer remarks.
