The Areas of Excellence reflect four distinct focal points for Student Affairs to concentrate its energies and resources. Each provides opportunities that must be seized and challenges that must be embraced. Efforts regarding assessment, development, diversity, financial management, organizational learning, and technology will be critical if we are to achieve success with each of the Areas of Excellence.

Excellence in Providing Quality Student Learning Experiences:
Student Affairs is committed to the holistic development of students and their success at Carolina. Through its various educational initiatives and partnerships, Student Affairs will assist students in developing their critical thinking abilities, appreciation and understanding of diverse perspectives, and potential for transformational leadership.

Excellence in Promoting Inclusive and Supportive Campus Environments:
Student Affairs is responsible for managing three million square feet of facility space on campus. Recognizing the potential that campus climate and physical facilities hold for enhancing the student experience and facilitating a sense of community at Carolina, Student Affairs is committed to developing, maintaining, and fostering campus environments that are safe, inclusive, environmentally and fiscally sustainable, and user friendly.

Excellence in Engaging with Students and Other Internal and External Constituents:
Student Affairs understands that to contribute to student success at Carolina and to become a leading Student Affairs unit, engagement with students and other internal and external constituents is essential. “Engagement” then entails that Student Affairs actively connecting with students, faculty, and staff in addition to involving parents and families, alumni groups, and other significant constituents such as trustees and the local community with our unit.

 

Excellence in Fostering a Dynamic and Positive Workplace:
Student Affairs recognizes the vital contribution that employees make to the Carolina student experience and to the overall performance of our unit. As a result, it is imperative that there be a sustained commitment to fostering a healthy, diverse workplace environment that promotes a positive work life balance atmosphere that encourages quality staff recruitment, development and retention. Student Affairs also celebrates and acknowledges employee contributions in support of the divisional mission.
